Chromebooks have significantly evolved over the past few years, and if it just so happens that you are looking for a solid hybrid laptop; you are in luck! Samsung has revealed two new additions to its Chromebook list in collaboration with Google: The Chromebook Pro and The Chromebook Plus. Being the first two devices that support Android applications via the Google Play Store, they are here to set a new standard in the Chromebook World.
Today, we are going to focus on the Samsung Chromebook Pro and see where it stands against other devices. You can check out our full in-depth review for the Samsung Chromebook Plus here.
You can tell that Samsung’s approach with the Chromebook Pro and Plus revolved around portability. At 2.4 pounds and 11.1 x 8.7 x 0.6 inches, these are among the thinnest and lightest Chromebooks on the market. The all-aluminum build on the Samsung Chromebook Pro gives it a very high-end look and feel. Its thinness and lightweight size allow you to easily fit it in your backpack without weighing you down.
Featuring a 12.3-inch LED screen with a Quad HD resolution 2400 x 1600, the Chromebook Pro is capable of displaying rich and vibrant colors. You might have noticed that the screen resolution seems a little bit unusual, but that is due to the display’s 3:2 aspect ratio. This gives you more vertical room to work with when you are in landscape orientation and a wider screen in portrait mode.
The Samsung Chromebook Pro features a 360° hinge that allows you to flip the display for laptop, tablet, stand, and tent modes. Which is perfect for watching videos and binge watching shows on Netflix, but you can also fold it all the way back and use the Chromebook just like a tablet with its own S-style stylus.
Equipped with an Intel Core m3-6Y30 Dual-Core 2.20 GHz processor and 4GB of RAM, The Samsung Chromebook Pro is faster than the Plus and can handle multiple tasks simultaneously and quickly access files and programs, including streaming 4K media.
If you are an avid G Suite user and big on the collaborative elements that it provides, the Chromebook Pro is more than a perfect fit for your needs. the Chromebook Pro is more than a perfect fit for your needs. Even with 14 tabs open, it doesn’t show any sign of slowing down. However, performance falls a little short when you have multiple Android apps running at the same time.
It features two USB Type-C for charging and for speed data transfer, as well as a microSD card reader for extra storage if you don’t rely too much on the Cloud. The downside of only having two USB Type-C slots is that you are left with only one slot if you are charging your device.
At $549, the Samsung Chromebook Pro is a multi-form powerhouse that will peak any Chrome aficionado’s interest. However, at the end of the day – the biggest deciding factor is what you are looking for our of your device. If you’re looking for a sleek, high-end, multi-form device- with Google Play Store functionality, and power – then this might just be the device you’ve been searching for!
